Philadelphia Zoo

America’s First Zoo & Family Favorite in Philly

Do you need a classic zoo experience near NYC or New Jersey or fun things to do in Philadelphia with kids? Philadelphia Zoo brings wildlife adventures to life as America’s first zoo on a beautiful 42-acre campus in West Philadelphia.

Visitors explore exciting exhibits and get close to animals. Watch lions, tigers, and other big cats roam in Big Cat Falls. See primates swing through the PECO Primate Reserve. Marvel at birds in the McNeil Avian Center and meet flamingos at the new Flamingo Cove. Families especially love KidZooU, an interactive children’s area with a barnyard where kids can pet goats, sheep, and mini-horses.

Moreover, the zoo’s unique Zoo360 animal exploration trails let big cats, primates, and other animals walk overhead on mesh pathways. This creates thrilling, up-close moments as animals cross above your head.

In addition, enjoy extra attractions like the Philly Zoo Pherris Wheel, a kiddie train, carousel, and seasonal rides. The zoo features nearly 1,900 animals, including giraffes, hippos, red pandas, polar bears, and more.

This spot works perfectly for Chol Hamoed, spring break, or weekend family outings. It combines education, animal encounters, and outdoor fun in a walkable setting.

The zoo opens daily from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM (last entry at 4:00 PM). Advance online tickets are required for general admission.
