EVEREST, The First Ascent

Step into 1953 and join one of the greatest human adventures of the 20th century. Hosted at Eclipso NYC, “EVEREST, The First Ascent” is a groundbreaking virtual reality experience that allows you to relive the historic first successful climb of Mount Everest alongside Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.

The Virtual Journey

This highly immersive experience transports you from the bustling streets and ancient temples of Kathmandu directly into the harsh, freezing environment of the Himalayas. As part of the expedition team, you will learn about the culture and traditions of the Sherpa communities who made the original climb possible. As you ascend, the VR environment simulates the extreme elements—you will visually experience the towering Khumbu icefalls, massive glaciers, and violent storms that the 1953 climbers faced.

Chol Hamoed Pro-Tips

  • Time Commitment: The entire experience takes 45 minutes, which includes a mandatory 10-minute onboarding session to get you fitted with your VR headset and briefed on the spatial movements.
  • Mobility Restrictions: Because VR headsets severely limit your real-world visibility, walkers and canes are strictly prohibited during the experience for safety reasons. However, the venue is fully ADA-compliant and wheelchairs are available upon request.
  • Health Considerations: This is an intense sensory and visual experience. It is not recommended for individuals with severe vertigo, balance or stability concerns, epilepsy, or heart conditions.
